Event: The Roots Picnic (Philly) line-up announced

The Roots and Live Nation have announced the line-up for the second annual Roots Picnic, behind held at the Festiva Pier at Penn’s Landing.

Get this, the highlight in my opinion, is the performance by Public Enemy where they will be performing “It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back” in it’s entirety backed by The Roots & Antibalas Orchestra.  INSANE!

PE have performed this full album show over in Europe, but I don’t believe they’ve done many performances with this approach in North America.  The Roots & Antibalas performed together back in late January at an event called Red Bull Sound Clash put on by Red Bull, so it’s obviously a show that worked so well they’ll be doing it again.

Other main stage performances will include: TV on the Radio, The Black Keys, Santigold, Antibalas, The Pipes featuring Zoe Kravitz and Busdriver.

Second stage will feature: Asher Roth, Kid Cudi, Philly’s own Writtenhouse, Back to Basics w/ King Britt & Dozia and Making Time’s Dave P.

The Roots Picnic takes place on Saturday, June 6, 2009.
