Melanie Fiona: Toronto soul to SRC

Toronto has had a fairly short list of soul music success stories over the years, however it looks like Melanie Fiona could be the next. Of Guyanese background (black, Indian and Portuguese), Melanie has made strides from her Toronto upbringing in a music based family.

Inked to a deal with Steve Rifkinds SRC Records, managed by Jay Brown and Tyran “Ty Ty” Smith of Roc Nation, and writing her record along side Andrea Martin, it appears she’s on the right track. Fiona has found a fan in Kanye West, and she’s just finished touring as an opener on West’s European and UK dates of the Glow In The Dark tour.

Her debut album The Bridge will be release in March 2009 through SRC / Motown Universal, including collaboration with Andrea Martin, Salaam Remi, Future Cut, Florida’s Vada Nobles, LA’s The Stereotypes, J. Phoenix, Peter Wade, and more.
