Hometown Heroes debut concert this Friday

Hometown Heroes

The Academy will debut a new quarterly-annual concert series this Friday, May 2 in Toronto, on the main floor of the El Mocambo.

The Academy loves their hometown Canadian talent, and we’d like you to show your love as well. Toronto hip hop fans have continued to show love to the out-of-town A-list, however a significant portion of those who love hip hop in the TDot, do not show the same support to the amazing local talent we have at home. There’s many who talk the talk, but don’t walk the walk as far as supporting their own, and this situation needs to change. Having confidence and pride in our local hip hop, will translate to their success internationally. A revival and re-birth of Toronto and Canadian hip hop is a necessity, and that begins with recognizing our HOMETOWN HEROES.

The performers for the first concert are HERO (official Toronto launch performance for their debut album), Masia One (fresh of an Asia tour), Marvel, Anonymous Twist, and Focus. The deejays will be DJ Mensa and Rod Skimmins and DJ Mensa, and host for the evening will be Wan Luv.

The artists would like to invite you personally, and check out their recent tracks. Take a listen below.

HERO “Mogadishu” w/ drop

Masia One “Telephone Love” / “New Love” / “Empress Gone” (sampler) w/ drop

Marvel “No Streets” w/ drop

Anonymous Twist “Jesus Piece” w/ drop

Focus “Boxed In”
