La Melodia: another key in the rising Dutch hip hop scene

La Melodia

The Netherlands have been an ever growing source of quality hip hop in recent years, with artists who have managed to garner global attention for their craft.  Nicolay burst on the scene with Phonte (Little Brother) as The Foreign Exchange in 2005, releasing an album that became a staple in hip hop circles,  while duo Pete Philly and Perquisite released their most recent record through ANTI in North America.

Just this week I was introduced to another Dutch hip hop group to look out for, La Melodia, a duo comprised of MC Melodee and producer/DJ I.N.T.  A mixed female/male collaboration, this duo has a great sound to their music, obvious chemistry between vocals and production, and based on their videos are equally charismatic in the presentation of their music.

The duo has only been recording since 2004, and quick success has taken them to an opening slot on a 2005 European Stones Throw tour that featured Oh No, Wildchild and Percee P.  They inked a deal in Japan in 2006 and released their debut EP Vibing High through Handcuts Records/Universal Japan, which was released at home in the Netherlands this past fall 2007 through PIAS Netherlands.

Check out a couple videos for tracks from the Vibing High below, and look for a North American release of the album sometime soon.
