I.G. Culture Japan only release of Zen Badizm

I.G. Culture

As one of the most respected names in the forward thinking electronic music scene, I.G. Culture (aka NSM aka Quango) is preparing to release a new album Zen Badizm through a new Japanese label called Freedom School. According to I.G. the album is “…a piece that’s 20 minutes long that goes through all the eras of spiritual black music”.

We’ve been unable to capture any snippits or previews of this project in audio format online, however I.G. did give a sneak preview to the students at Red Bull Music Academy 2007 in Toronto, which you can check out in full streaming video at the following link.

The project features a cover of “Girl You Need A Change Of Mind” by Eddie Kendricks, featuring Bilal Salaam from DC. Preview the track just after the half-way point in the interview.

The release is the second in a series of beautifully designed gatefold vinyl releases being put out by Freedom School, the first being Marc de Clive Lowe’s Journey 2 The Light featuring Bembe Segue (vocals), Jason Yarde (sax), Sammy Figueroa (percussion), Richard Spaven (drums) and Joni Love (flute). You can take a listen to a preview of this first release at Marc de Clive Lowe’s imeen page.

Red Bull Music Academy will be hosting an album release party and info-session in Tokyo, Japan on April 18, featuring DJ sets and live performance by Steve Spacek (AfricaHitech – Australia), Mark Pritchard (WarpRecords – Australia), and John Robinson (aka Lil’ Sci – Atlanta), and dance by Brooklyn Terry. The Jazzysport DJ’s will hold down the decks throughout the evening (Masaya Fantasista and DSK Invisible).

  1. Just a correction –

IG Culture is NSM and Quango (amongst others) but not Afronaut, Afronaut is Orin Walters.
