Self Construction Sessions: Los Angeles

The Stop The Violence Movement

KRS-One and The Stop The Violence Movement hit Los Angeles hard over Grammy weekend, where the Teacher brought together emcees from a broad spectrum to contribute to a new movement.

The movement is a continuation of the late-80’s Self Destruction movement formed by KRS-One following a fight that lead to the death of a concert goer at a Boogie Down Production and Public Enemy concert.  “Self Destruction” brought together an all-star cast of East Coast emcees to create a track with sales donated to the National Urban League.

On January 18, 2008, KRS-One rejuvinated The Stop The Violence movement with the support of Martin Luther King III, to address increased violence among youth in the United States.

We are a collective of artists, activists, entertainers and educators who understand that we are powerful role models.  We are taking responsibility.  We intend to combine the power of the media and the arts to create our “hammer” so that we may shape our reality, a non-violent reality.

The 3-day (February 7-9) LA session brought together emcees including: KRS-One, Planet Asia, Chamillionaire, Nelly, The Game, Busta Rhymes, 2Mex, Talib Kweli, Snoop Dogg, Ludacris, Fat Joe, Zion I, Rakaa of Dilated Peoples, Cassidy, Doug E Fresh, Lil’ Mama, Channel Live, Lil’ Wayne, David Banner, and many more.
